Abraham scores 2 goals as Roma beat Torino 3-0 to book European spot

TURIN, Italy (AP) — Tammy Abraham scored twice to help Roma win in Turin 3-0 on Friday and secure a place in Europe for next season ahead of the Europa Conference League final next week. .

Both of Abraham’s goals came in the first half of Roma’s last Serie A game. The England international took his tally to 26 goals in all competitions in one fantastic first season at the Italian club.

“I would have liked to have had three to score a hat trick for my team, but the most important thing is that we won,” said Abraham. “We wanted to finish the season well. It’s been a tough long season and fair play to all my team-mates, we did well. Now we have a final to look forward to and we’re all excited.

“As I’ve always said, I fell in love with this club from day one. It’s been a good year for me. I’d like to build on this year and hopefully we can finish with a trophy and it would just be the perfect year.

Lorenzo Pellegrini converted a second penalty for Roma 12 minutes from time.

It was Roma’s first Serie A victory in over a month and saw Jose Mourinho’s side finish at least sixth, securing a place in the Europa League next year, regardless of what the teams below manage on Saturday.

Roma meet Feyenoord in the Europa Conference League final on Wednesday.

Both of Abraham’s goals came following huge mistakes in the Torino defence.

For the opener in the 33rd minute, the home side gave the ball away in their own half and Pellegrini found Abraham, who turned Turin defender David Zima upside down before tackling and shooting in the lower right corner.

Roma doubled their lead when Turin defender Ricardo Ivan Rodriguez played a gruesome back pass and, in Etrit Berisha’s attempt to reach it, the goalkeeper tripped Abraham.

Abraham struck the resulting penalty coldly in the middle three minutes before half-time.

When substitute Nicolò Zaniolo was knocked down by Alessandro Buongiorno in the second half, Pellegrini converted the penalty into the bottom left corner.
